Audience
The audience of this magazine is indie/ rock fans, you can tell this by the use of the colours the dark colours, the black and the red and the use of the white text upon a black background. The font used is also a grunge font which is showing the genre of music that the magazine is about.
Representation
The front cover has a picture of a midshot Chester Beninngton, who is the front man Linkin Park. This show the reader that there is a 'Exclusive interview' enticing someone to buy the magazine as he is a well known singer in a very well known band.
Layout (Consider Shot) types
The magazine has a bright bubble around the text over 1000 gigs, which emphasises it and makes it stand out so that the readers know that there is probably a gig that they can go to. To get potential readers to buy the magazine there is a bright yellow text saying WIN in capitals which stands out. The page is very busy with lots of text which makes it appear that the magazine has lots articles which the reader may wish to read so they may feel they may get their moneys worth by buying the magazine.
Genre
Indy/Rock this is shown by the colours used (black, white, red) and the artist as his music is rock/indy. The grunge style font that is used shows this also and the way the page is quite busy, almost like a packed gig.

Research and Planning: Semotics Collage
Semiotics is the study of signs, as I am designing a indie magazine I created a collage to help me keep to the theme I used images from Kerrang and from Q as these are in the same genre. From my collage I have decided what colour scheme I am going to use for my magazine, I am going to use three colours red, white and black as this is a theme used by many indie and rock magazines, I am also going to make sure if i have a image of a band I use the same layout as used in the magazine where the lead singer is at the front and the rest of the band are at the back. I will also make sure I use a 'grunge' font, as this is used on the title of the magazine and also on the sub-stories on the front of the magazine.

Research and Planning: College Magazine Review

I made the image for my front cover fill the front cover as well as I could however despite this it was a couple of cm short therefore I copied the top of the image so that I didn't have a gap or that the image was stretched. I made the images smaller and cropped the images for my contents page as the college magazines I looked at had several images down the side, If I did this again I would use more images of a similar shape as some of the images were hidden by another image quite a lot and others not so much.
The font size on the front of my magazine is the biggest font I have used anywhere in my magazine. However I think that I should have used a slightly larger font on the sub-stories but there was a variation in the size of the font that you could clearly see the name of the magazine and it stood out. On the contents page I think that I should have put a title saying contents rather than just the title of the magazine, however I think that it was a good idea to use this in the contents to keep the theme, maybe another time I would use the same font and colours on the word contents to keep the theme
I have almost followed the three colour rule however I had to use a black background otherwise my white font would have been unreadable. However other than this I did keep to the three colours.

I used the same font for the title on the contents page as the front cover, I also kept to my colour scheme on both pages and used the same font as the title on the larger fonts on the contents page and on my articles on both the front and the contents page to keep the magazine looking uniform and flow.
I used photographs of students in the college and they were all taken inside the college grounds however I think it would have been better if I had used a variation of locations as I only showed images of the deck and the Costa Coffee. I also feel that the images didn't have many people on them and was a proper representation of college life, if I was to do this again I would make sure I took pictures at lunch time because this is when the college is much busier.
There are several stories on the cover however I think I could have done with some more as the cover seems quite blank. I also feel that I could have done with more articles in the magazine on my contents page as again it seemed quite blank, I tried to improve this however by using a larger font on the page numbers and to make it more interesting, however even then I still used a font size 14 on the text which said the name of the articles.

Research and Planning: Images for College Magazine
I took images round college for my college magazine:
- I haven't much experience in taking photos so I decided that I would use a setting on my camera which meant that it took two photos in quick succession one with a flash and one without. I soon found out that those without a flash didn't work as well as those with the flash
- There was alot of camera shake on these images too therefore for my close up image I will make sure I use a flash if the image is taken indoors. The images were also quite red/orange I think this is due to the lighting.
- I took pictures of the new chill out area and the new costa as my magazine articles will be about this.
- I tried to get as many images with people however this was hard due to the time I went to take the pictures in the future I would try and take pictures during a lunch hour as only one or two images really show the college life I am aiming to show in my magazine
